Alex O’Neil – 1,000 Runs

Congratulations to Alex O’Neil who reached the feat of scoring 1,000 runs for the club in the rain-affected match against Helperby 2nd XI at the ACG on the 16th June 2018.

Alex hit an unbeaten 41 as the 1st XI racked up a mammoth 314-4 after just 40 overs. The hard-hitting run machine becomes the 25th player in Arthington league history to reach 1,000 runs and his effort on Saturday also saw him overtake Lawrence Barraclough to become the 24th highest run-maker for the club.

Alex accomplished the milestone in only his 27th match for the club. In our league history, only 3 players have scored more than 1,000 runs in fewer matches than Alex – Ben Lake, James Brennan and Naveed Andrabi – so Alex has joined a very elite club with this effort.

He has amassed a total of 1,028 runs since his debut in 2016, helping himself to 2 centuries and 6 fifties along the way. He currently holds a very impressive Arthington career average of 46.73.

Congratulations again to Alex from all at Arthington Cricket Club.

Gareth Meredith – 100 Appearances

Congratulations to Gareth Meredith, who played in his 100th match for Arthington in the 2nd XI fixture against North Stainley 2 on 19th May 2018.

Gareth becomes the 19th player to achieve 100 matches for the club.Gareth celebrated his milestone by helping himself to 2 wickets on his way to returning figures of 2-21 from his 4 overs. He was not needed with the bat as the 2nd XI recorded a convincing 9-wicket victory.

Nephew of Arthington legend Brian, Gareth made his Arthington debut in 2006, and has since amassed 570 runs and taken 23 wickets for the club. He has scored 2 fifties in this time with a high score of 66 and a best bowling return of 3-25.Known as one of the best fielders in the club and owning perhaps the safest pair of hands, Gareth likes to make difficult catches look very easy!

Along with Brian and his father Neville, Gareth has been instrumental over the years in keeping the ACG as beautiful as it is with tireless help and assistance at the ground, so thanks for all the hard work.

Congratulations on the milestone Gareth, here’s to 100 more!
